The Big Easy- New Orleans

We are on the corner of Market Street near the French Market...

A view down the street

We just love the colors of the buildings

And the trees on the Parade route are covered with colorful Bead Necklaces

Looks like everyone had a good time throwing their beads everywhere, trees, bushes, fences...

Just another beautiful old home.

The streets of New Orleans are still in very bad shape because of the water damage from Katrina, 6 years ago, so much still to be done.

The French Market, what a fun place to visit, lots of trinkets to buy and yummy food.

I don't remember the name of this sandwich, but it was delicious (a Maloofa?) spanish chorice, cheese, and a topping of green olives, mushrooms, celery, carrots, onions, capers, oh it was so good!!

Got a good wave from this person when we tooted the horn!

But then we took a ride thru the 9th Ward, such a unbelieveable place, it is still a disaster zone after all this time, house after house, people living there trying to put their lives back in some order.

There is hope, they have buldozed some areas and are rebuilding new neighborhoods.

I think this is the development that Brad Pitt is helping fund.

It was hard taking pictures, I just cannot imagine, living thru such a tragedy!

Hopefully someday there will be a future for all the 9th ward again.

Travels thru Louisana

The dirt was dark orange same color as the orange warning cone on the side of the road.

A small park on the waters edge had this sculpture in it, so of course Gremlin had to check it out.

Signs of spring everywhere, see it is coming really!

Part of the fleet of shrimp boats in the harbor

Back on the road

We are now visiting Fort Pickens built in 1829, and used until 1946

One of the cannons inside the building.

They said it took 21 million bricks to build this fort by only 60 men.

Every one who used this fort changed the look, would have liked to see what it looked like originally.

More from the beach

I thought this picture is appropriate for Gremlin, his former owner is Howard Langdon.

The beach was just beautiful, wish we could have stayed a bit longer and taken a long, long walk....

Here I am checking out a jelly fish which was washed up on the beach, and I have my special white sand in my bag to take home!

The Old Spanish Trail

This the Cape St. George Light when they finish the brick building it will be a museum

Just a look at the beach in St. George.

We stopped for gas and Paul heard a scream from a nearby tree, a bald eagle!

Now we are in the Gulf Islands National Seashore, we tried to get into the camping area that night but they were full up :(

The beautiful white sand, looks like snow blowing across the road.

Images of our friends

Griffe is a little afraid of truck traffic noise so he gets under the chair and stays there until we land. Sometimes we cannot see him at all and if I call his name out comes a paw to show us where he is.

Gremlin is just being Gremlin everywhere we go he gets smiles!

Life on the road in the motor home not too bad aye!

Now Sweetie has a basket she rides in, but Griffe wanted it too, then came the squabble, so we went by an antique store and out side was this basket with a bear in it, I didn't need the bear but just the basket $8 and it was mine. So Sweetie crawled in, and has not left it yet, she loves it, and now of course Griffe doesn't want the old basket! And so it goes life on the road.

More of Charlestown

Take any side street and enjoy the colors and style of houses

This group of homes were on the waterfront, nice digs!

This is one of my favorite homes, the style and location a corner lot.

This is the shade tree for that home, can you imagine on a hot humid day sitting out on that porch enjoying the shade from this beautiful tree?

It seems every inch of space is used for a house lot, love the Bermuda Pink color.

Charlestown, S. Carolina

Wonderful historic buildings on every corner, notice the round windows

Just look at the details and the craftmanship that went into the design, just amazing.

Loved the colors and of course the iron fence.

Throughout Charlestown, these iron fences were created by a Mr. Simmons you can see how detailed they are, he just passed away recently, we just hope he passed on his talent to someone else to carry on his legacy.

This is the Custom House at night, just beautiful.

On the road to Charlestown, S. Carolina

This is the Ruins of the Old Sheldon Prince William Parish Church built in 1745, burned 1778 by British, and 1865 in the Civil War.
Interesting sign, thought we might just keep on going!

Just one of the treats we purchased at the Carolina Cider Company Store

Boiled Peanuts yummy, eat them while they are hot....

Not much to look at, but what treats lie inside!
