Here we are at White Sands National Monument!

We arrive and in the parking lot is a Broad Wing Hawk sitting on the bat house, humm....

Of course Gremlin has to get in the picture....

This was one of the nicer days we had, sunny and warm a bit windy, the park attendant was trying to keep things looking nice.

Piles and piles of White sand....

But really it is Gypsum, it was deposited in a lake during the last ice age. As the water evaporated the gypsum was left. Then the winds came and formed the dunes, it comprises 275 Square miles.

It has to be plowed off the roads just like snow, it is always moving, always drifting.

You can get sleds at the visitor center and slide down the drifts.

I thought this would make an interesting picture, white sands with the new fallen snow on the Mountain behind.

And just like at the beach a nice table to enjoy a picnic... A beach without the ocean!
