Jeep ride to Tortilla Flat in the Superstition Mountains

Our friends tow a small jeep for off road travel, so they offered us a lift to see some of the back country, well here goes. I had a hard time choosing the pictures the Superstition Mountains they are amazing hard to describe some of the views, and because of the amount of rainfall everything was beginning to turn green. Some plants wait many, many years to bloom for such a rainey year as this has been.

Well how do you like your catus, this saguaro, some live to be over 100 years, amazing to see up close! I wanted to get a close up and get the whole catus in it, sideways was the only way I knew!!

Of course Paul with Gremlin.

Love the adobe style houses, no mowing the grass here...

We stopped at this replica of a old mining town, Apache Land...

Paul with Gremlin and our friend Joyce

Check out these Catus trees, Cholla, very dangerous, check out the sign. The babies from this tree fall on the ground everywhere, you need to be careful where you walk and where the dog walks too!

I just loved the metal cowboy sign....

Hey that looks like our neighbors Joyce and Paul, humm maybe they were arrested because of their "Jeep" driving????

Check out the view, and the green plants!

On this road up the mountains, there is no guard rails, and over you can go, the cars never rust because of the dry arid landscape.

Paul with Gremlin with a view from one of the lakes formed by the Roosevelt Dam.

What a nice spot indeed...

Everything that could bloom was just starting, I am not sure of this plants name, I have some homework to do...

At Tortilla Flat the road was closed due to flooding because of the heavy rains, but that didn't stop our friends in their jeep....We did see motor cycles go thru it and also a pickup truck too, it was not really not that deep at that point....but my eyes were really big as we drove in the water!!

This is the whole town of Tortilla Flat, busy that day because the road was closed to most traffic.

This is where we stopped for lunch, it is the only place in town...

This was outside and of course I had to check it out.

Joyce and Paul at the bar sitting on horse saddles, that is the only way Paul will ride!

Rattlesnake Beer just had to have one, pretty good too!

I loved these rocks looks like they are two people hugging???

Nice view!

See the little road down below that is where we are going!

I know this one Lupine, but they seem to be stunted because of where they are living so high up in the Mts.

I don't know these plants either, but loved the delicate flat pods...

Like heights???

Love the mix of red sandstone and catus...

Waterfalls coming from the rocks, just amazing.

The river is overflowing with rain water, this tree was enjoying the moisture, with the show of new green leaves!

Roosevelt Dam, largest stone cut Dam in the world, built in 1903-1911.

The Dam.

This is a bridge which we drove over, water was very high.

This is the rest of the bridge, this section was not built in the water, this shows you how high the water is.

Gremlin got a pee stop....

These trees are not suppose to be in the water!

Check out the message board for the camp ground! Glad we didn't camp here!

We had a great time visiting with our old neighbors from Rehoboth, but it was time for us both to depart. We are now heading North to Salt Lake City and they are headed east. We will never forget the Jeep Ride, it was awesome, thank you Paul and Joyce....safe travels!
